Thorium Norway - Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
Drive the future of clean energy and medical isotopes
As our new CTO, you will drive the design and scale-up of our Thorium Purification Plants (TPP) and mineral-processing technologies — responsible for process-engineering and innovation.
About us
Thorium Norway AS is a high-growth Norwegian startup on a mission to transform under-utilized thorium resources into sustainable fuel solutions and source of advanced medical isotopes. Backed by private investors and led by seasoned energy and pharma executives, we are building our first industrial-scale TPP to deliver ultra-pure Th-232 for nuclear fuel and Radium-228 as precursor for life-saving therapies.
We’ve partnered with The Assessment Company to lead our recruitment process—and we’re looking for a visionary CTO to drive our technology roadmap, pilot operations and ensure further product development and innovation.
Are you ready to further develop both yourself and our technology, driving innovation from concept through commercialization?
Main responsibilities and tasks
- Oversee Plant & Process Design
Collaborate with external engineering firms and processing partners to shape the design of our TPP and products, including ore-processing facilities—ensuring safety, scalability and right product quality.
- De-risk Scale-up
Define and execute critical laboratory experiments that validate purification processes, mitigate production risks and optimize investment decisions.
- Strategic Sourcing
In partnership with the CEO, take interim ownership of raw-material sourcing—establishing supply agreements and securing feedstock for pilots and full-scale operations.
- Lead Product Innovation
Chart the long-term R&D roadmap, developing new thorium-based products and precursors for medical-isotope platforms that keep us highly relevant for our clients.
To succeed and thrive in the role, you will need
- Education: PhD or MSc in Mineralogy/Hydrometallurgy and/or Radiochemistry/Nuclear Physics.
- Technical Expertise: Hands-on development experience in isotope or rare-earth extraction, purification processes, pilot-scale operations.
- Understanding of nuclear regulations: Experience with regulatory frameworks related to nuclear materials (e.g., IAEA, national authorities).
- Leadership & Strategy: Proven ability to build and inspire cross-disciplinary teams, translate technical complexity into business-critical decisions, and think both analytically and strategically.
- Collaborative Mindset: Strong relationship-building skills with internal teams, external partners and regulators.
- Startup Spirit: Comfortable wearing multiple hats, thriving in ambiguity, and driving rapid progress in a fast-paced environment, with a “can do – will do” team-spirit.
Why Join Us?
- Impact at Scale: Shaping the future of cleaner nuclear energy and robust supply of isotope for cancer therapies, addressing global challenges related to climate and health.
- Executive Exposure: Work side-by-side with our CEO and board of industry professionals. Be a key role on the company’s leadership team.
- Growth & Ownership: Play a defining role in an ambitious startup, with competitive equity and the freedom to innovate.
- Collaborative Culture: Join a team of experts, committed to sustainability, safety and scientific excellence.
